July 4th we were hoping to make it to the National forest just outside Buffalo , Wyoming , but the van had other ideas. We were about 5 miles out of Buffalo headed up a very steep grade when the van started overheating. Instead of pushing our luck we turned around and went back to a campground in Buffalo . The campground didn’t have much going for it other than a steakhouse across the street where we got to eat bison steak and elk medallions and a really nice guy from Alabama that we met that brought us coffee in the morning. Other than that, it was just a place to sleep. July 5th we headed towards the Tetons. We made it to the National Forest just outside the park and camped there for a night. The amount of wild flowers didn’t stop impressing me each time we saw meadow speckled with purple, yellow, white and red. July 6th we woke early and drove almost all the way through Grand Tetons National Park and found an incredible “primitive” campsite right on the boarder of Yellowstone on the Snake River that allowed free camping. It was the best of all worlds: privacy, a view of the Tetons, on a river and at no cost! We got lucky and saw a female moose feeding in a meadow.
