The Empire State

Yesterday we woke in Pennsylvania to thunder that sounded like it was cracking directly above us and an insane downpour of rain. When we set up camp the night before we decided for the first time not to put the rain fly on the tent; we slept in the van, but our stuff stays in the tent… no rain fly means just a piece of mesh between the inside of the tent and the elements, so you can imagine the rush we were in to keep all of our stuff in the tent dry. Needless to say a few of our things got wet, including the chairs & the rug. Once we packed up and headed north we were out of the rain and into sunny 80 degree temperatures quickly. We drove into New York state and the first person we met (the toll booth person) said, “I just don’t understand why you would want to come to New York if you live in California!”… We weren’t sure if that was a bad sign or not. A little over an hour after crossing into New York state we were at Darien Lakes State Park and were able to get a campsite for the next two nights! Now all we need are tickets to the show tonight!
On our way to Pennsylvania we crossed through
Wheeling, West Virginia shown in this photo

This was our campsite in Pennsylvania where we woke to rain
(this was taken the evening before)

When we crossed from Pennsylvania into New York we were in Erie
and were headed northeast on I-90 towards Buffalo and Niagra Falls,
this is what we saw from the road

Once we got to Buffalo we headed East towards the state park on a state highway. I love looking at the houses in all the towns we go through. Here's a series of photos of houses from the outskirts of Buffalo, New York:

A bright NY morning and another Westy is camped next to us!
