While driving east towards
New Hampshire yesterday the road followed the
Quechee River. The fishing looked great, plus it wasn’t raining, so we decided to stop right before the
New Hampshire boarder and camp in The Green State one night at
Quechee State Park. At The Country Store where we bought our fishing licenses they sold local
Vermont goods such as maple syrup and a wide variety of cheeses. We took the opportunity to sample some cheese and decided on a type called Hunter made by Plymouth Cheese, it is very mild with a creamy texture and it’s covered in wax which gives it a shelf life and makes it perfect for traveling. Without much luck we tried fishing in the Quechee Gorge which was a mile hike from our campsite. It was lightly raining as we left the campsite, but once we were fishing in the river it started pouring. We were fully covered in waders and rain gear, but still managed to get wet. The scenery on the hike to the river was a rain forest lushness that is hard to describe (and I didn’t dare take the camera fishing). I kept thinking I would see a moose standing one of the many ponds or streams we passed on our hike, but we struck out there too. We were determined to make the most of our camping experience in
Vermont, rain or shine. Kyle built great fire and BBQ’d a steak… and sure enough, it stopped raining! It actually stopped for the duration of our time there and we had a great time sitting by the fire roasting marshmallows.
I understand why it's called The Green State

Jen and Kyle,
ReplyDeleteThis is Steve. I had to tell you that I shot a video at the Simon Pierce Glass company which is there next to the Queechee Dam. They have a good but expensive restaurant there too. Such a gorgeous spot! Love the blog, keep up the good work.
